Know Your Author Series - Episode 2 - #CreativityInc
Hey guys!
Welcome to another episode of our Know Your Author series 😁😇
We observed that it is more interesting to read a book and finish it 😅 when you know a thing or two about the author(s). It allows you to read from their perspective, experience, background and even with their tone. So here it goes. Have fun! We hope you enjoy reading this post as much as we enjoyed writing it.
Today, we'll look closely at the two authors of our book for May at the Discovery Shoppe Book Club: Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration.
We begin with:
Edmund Catmull
Edwin Earl "Ed" Catmull is one of the three founding fathers of Pixar. He was President and CTO of Pixar and later President of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios until his retirement in 2019. He is literally a legend in the field of Computer Engineering, contributing significantly to computer graphics used in the motion picture industry, for which he has won multiple awards.
As a kid, young Ed always wanted to become an animator for Disney. But he discovered early enough that he wasn't very good at drawing. So, he chose to focus on computers. After his bachelor's degree, he had a dream to create the first animated movie. He would eventually realise that dream decades later (You have to give him a lot of credit. I mean, he stayed true to his dream for over 20 years! Even when it meant creating a new field and industry!)
The University of Utah (where he schooled) nicknamed him, "The Imaginer", and he continues to champion his ideas of constant change, innovation, and excellence, not just with both Pixar and Disney, but also with students at the University of Utah (who are so lucky to have him). He has remained involved as a member and past chair of the University’s Engineering National Advisory Council. You can follow him up on Twitter @edcatmull.
Next:
Amy Wallace
Amy Wallace is a journalist whose work has appeared in GQ, The New Yorker, Wired, Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times Magazine (and a bit more). She is no slouch either in the brain department, having graduated cum laude with a B.A. in history from Yale.
Amy is very gutsy, and she seems never afraid to face any person or situation. This fact is very evident when we consider that she covered the Los Angeles riots in 1992, covered the Northridge earthquake in 1994, and profiled the then Variety Editor - Peter Bart (who is also known as "the most hated man in Hollywood") for Los Angeles magazine in 2013. You could always check her up on Twitter @msamywallace.
